Permaculture Techniques - Useful Animals in a Permaculture System
Earthworms
Harvest: Castings may be harvested by exposing worm farm to sun light, encouraging the worms to go to the bottom, castings may then be scraped off until worms are found.
Treatment: Castings may be used directly as a rich fertiliser, used as an additive to potting mixes, or made into a liquid fertiliser.
Use: Turn organic matter into castings, a rich organic fertiliser, aerate the soil, improve soil structure, aid water penetration. Food source for fish, fowl, marron etc.
